The British side, represented by Foreign Minister Elizabeth Truss, “did not listen and did not hear” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the talks in Moscow. This was announced on Thursday, February 10, by Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin in an interview with the TV channel BBC.
“We didn’t see any participation. It was a repetition of the language and slogans with which she speaks here in Parliament, in the press, on Twitter, and nothing more … Minister [Лавров] the question explained in detail: what is happening, what we want, why this situation, but the British side neither listened nor heard what we said, ”he said.
Kaelin expressed disappointment with British diplomacy, which was expected to deliver a brilliant performance, but received a limited set of slogans and language, which is far from a desire to find a solution and a desire for dialogue “based on mutual respect and recognition of each other’s interests.”
“We always stand for dialogue, for diplomacy, and ultimatums, harsh statements, phrases are a dead end. But, unfortunately, more and more in this country and in the United States use this kind of diplomacy,” said Kelin.
The head of the Russian diplomatic mission recalled that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had previously said that he was sending Foreign Minister Truss to Moscow to improve bilateral relations, but the Russian side did not see this during the visit of the British minister.
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke of a “mute to deaf” conversation after meeting with his British counterpart, Liz Truss, in Moscow. According to him, relations between the Russian Federation and Britain leave much to be desired, and this is not the fault of Moscow. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, revealing the details of the meeting between the two ministers, clarified that the negotiations were reduced to “voicing tweets” from Truss.
