The papal basilica is then open to the public. Francis’ simple marble grave is located in a side aisle near the altar of St. Francis. According to Italian civil protection, 400,000 people took part in the funeral of Pope Francis on Saturday.
The cardinals gathered in Rome also want to go to the grave on Sunday. Before that, however, celebrate a fair on St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican at 10.30 a.m. It is led by Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who was in the Vatican under Francis Cardinal State Secretary and thus number two.

Exceptional resting place
Pope Francis did not like the St. Peter’s Basilica, but the papal basilica Santa Maria Maggiore as the final resting place. The Argentinian had often prayed in front of the icon of the Holy Virgin. Only his Latin Pope name “Franciscus” is on the grave as an inscription.
