The over four meters high column consists of stacked three -sided concrete prisms, which lead the place names of the former outer warehouse as well as Mauthausen and the distances to the installation location. The tips of the prisms each point in the directions of the outer warehouse.

The revelation took place in the presence of Interior Minister Gerhard Karner, Upper Austria’s deputy governor Christine Haberlander (both ÖVP), State Secretary Jörg Leichtfried (SPÖ) and the head of Mauthausen Memorials, Barbara Glück. They all emphasized the importance of a lively culture of remembrance.
“Uniform, recognizable labeling”
Together with local initiatives, the Mauthausen Memorial memorial office has developed “a uniform, recognizable labeling” for the more than 40 former outer warehouse of the Mauthausen concentration camp system. The former crime scenes are brought into a topographical context to make the Mauthausen cover spatially tangible, the Mauthausen Memorial explains. But not only at the Mauthausen concentration camp memorial, but at every place of a former outer warehouse, it is to be pointed out to the entire system, which also traces the deportation paths of the concentration camp prisoners.
