Despite the difficult framework, Austria’s foreign industry wrote a positive current account in the previous year. The surplus was 11.7 billion euros or 2.4 percent of economic output. Bait pillars for this were both the goods trade and tourism.

The result series is in a long series of surpluses, said Edeltraud Stiftinger, Vicegouseur of the Austrian National Bank (OENB), when presenting the figures: “The development also shows the high competitiveness of Austria’s exporting industry.”
