In 2005, Daniela Dett and Henry Mason shared the stage for the first time: in the play “Down with Love” they told a love story with lyrics by William Shakespeare, Broadway songs and a lot of humour.

Now, 17 years later, Daniela Dett is a celebrated musical star at the Landestheater and Henry Mason is a sought-after author and director who has staged several times at the Salzburg Festival. Now both want to tell their story from back then. In “Down with Love. Reloaded” they play a couple who meet after 17 years and want to give their band one last concert. “Like Benedict and Beatrice in Shakespeare’s ‘Much Ado About Nothing,’ they resist love tooth and nail,” says Mason. Shakespeare, pop songs and humor also play a major role this time. “Shakespeare is our passion,” says Dett. “He’s a folk poet. The British Nestroy.”

The play will be performed at the Posthof on September 22, 24, 25 and 26. Dett and Mason founded the association “Shakespeare gradaus”, which also organizes the “Show kitchen Shakespeare” project in November. In order to be able to finance the piece “Down with Love. Reloaded”, they want to collect 15,000 euros through a crowdfunding campaign. “It’s an unfamiliar feeling asking the audience for money,” Mason said. Dett adds: “We want to offer high quality and pay employees fairly.” (hes)
