February is unreliable, reliable this year. During the past working week, winter took two days off and let spring work as a stand-in. Temperatures rose to 13 degrees on Wednesday and Thursday, and a cold front took over again on Friday.
“The front is through, only a few remaining clouds will remind you of this on Saturday. Then it will quickly get much better again,” says Alexander Ohms, meteorologist at ZAMG. While the temperatures are still subdued today with a maximum of seven degrees, the spring-like impression is already dominating on Sunday with a foehn. “Only the clear nights get bone-chillingly cold,” says Ohms.

The rollercoaster ride will continue unabated in the coming week: Monday, eleven degrees, lots of sunshine and only high, harmless clouds – spring. Tuesday, seven degrees, rain and a snow line that falls to 700 meters above sea level during the day – winter. “In the further course of time it will be mild again very quickly. On Thursday we even expect temperatures of up to 15 degrees,” says Ohms. This is due to a changeable, windy westerly current, which mainly shovels mild air towards Upper Austria. “In between there are a few outliers with cold air,” says the meteorologist. For the lowlands, Ohms sees more green than white this winter: “As it stands, it won’t be really wintry in the lower elevations,” he says.
The ski season is not affected by this: Winter continues in Upper Austria’s mountains. (against)
