After two days of conclave – and 5 votes – finally the Church has a new Pope. Robert Prevost, 69, will be the new Supreme Pontiff that will happen to Francisco. More than an hour after the white smoking, the American – who chose the name of Leo XIV – He was happy on the balcony where he gave his First speech as leader of Catholics in the world.
“Thanks to Pope Francis”, The American recalled in part of his speech. Then, he advocated a “united church” that seeks “Always peace, justice, working as men and women faithful to Jesus Christ, without fear, to proclaim the gospel and be missionary.”
This was the full speech of Leo XIV in front of the Plaza de San Pedro
After being chosen, the American appeared on the balcony in front of the Plaza de San Pedro and expressed his first speech. Next, the words of Leo XIV:
Peace be with all of you.
Dear brothers and sisters, this is the first greeting of the risen Christ, the good shepherd who has given his life for the flock of God.
I also want this peace of peace to reach their hearts, which reaches their families, all people, wherever they find all peoples, to the whole earth.
Peace is with you.
This is the peace of resurrected Christ, a unarmed peace, disarming and also persevering, which comes from God, who loves us all unconditionally. We still keep in our ears that weak, but always brave voice, of Pope Francis who blessed Rome.
The Pope who blessed Rome also gave the world that morning of Easter Day. Let me give continuity to that same blessing: that God loves them very much, God loves everyone and evil will not prevail. We are all in the hands of God.
Therefore, without fear, united, hand in hand with God and among us, we walk. Let’s be disciples of Christ. Christ precedes us. The world needs its light; Humanity needs him as the bridge to be achieved by the love of God. Let us help each other to build bridges with dialogue, the encounter, joining us all to be a single town, always in peace.
Thanks to Pope Francis. I would like to thank all the cardinal brothers who have chosen me to be Peter’s successor and walk with you as a united Church, always looking for peace, justice, working as men and women faithful to Jesus Christ, without fear, to proclaim the gospel and be a missionaries.
I am a son of San Agustín, Agustino, who said: “With you I am a Christian and for you, bishop.” In this sense, we can all walk together towards that country that God has prepared us.
To the Church of Rome, a special greeting. We have to look together how to be a missionary church, a church that builds bridges of dialogue, always willing and open to receive, like this square, with open arms to all. To all those who need our charity, our presence, dialogue and love.
And if they allow me, also a word, a greeting, in particular for all those of my dear Diocese of Chulucanas, in Peru, where a faithful people have accompanied his bishop, has shared his faith and has given so much, so much, to continue being a faithful church of Jesus Christ.
To all of you, brothers and sisters, from Rome, from Italy and from all over the world. We want a synodal church, to walk, that always seeks peace, that always seeks charity, being close to those who suffer.
Today, on the day of the Virgin of Pompeya, our Mother Maria wants to always walk with us, be close to us, help us with her intercession and love.
Now I would like to pray with you for this new mission, throughout the Church, for the peace of the world. Let’s ask for this special grace of Mary, our mother.
