The United States will send an additional 3,000 troops to Poland in the coming days, Reuters reported on Friday, February 11, citing sources. On the same day, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said that no such decision had been made.
“Bringing additional forces on high alert in case such a decision is made by NATO, the president could discuss today with the secretary general of the alliance. No decision has been made in this regard, but the force remains on high alert in the event of a NATO request,” Sullivan said on briefing.
According to Reuters, the Pentagon intends to “calm down NATO allies” who fear Russian military exercises in Belarus and the Black Sea by sending another 3,000 troops to Poland. Officials have said anonymously that additional troops will be detached from the 82nd Airborne Division, based at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and will arrive in Poland next week. One official described it as a “significant deployment”.
Another official told the agency that the order to deploy an additional military force was signed by Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin at the direction of President Joe Biden, who on Thursday evening held a meeting with national security advisers in connection with “Russia’s increased military power around Ukraine.”
The provocative and incorrect materials of the Western media were commented on by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, calling what is happening “hysteria of the White House.”
“The Anglo-Saxons need a war. At any price. Provocations, disinformation and threats are a favorite method of solving their own problems, ”she wrote in the Telegram channel.
The Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday evening also presented a compilation of disinformation materials in the Western media, which indicates a large-scale information attack against Russia. The agency noted the interaction of the media and the authorities of Western countries as part of the dissemination of information about the so-called Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The forthcoming deployment of additional US forces to Romania, Poland and Germany was announced earlier in the day by Pentagon spokesman John Kirby. As the media specified, it is planned to send about 2 thousand troops to Poland and several thousand more in the direction of the southeastern flank of NATO. At the same time, it was reported that in parallel with the United States, several other NATO countries, including Great Britain, France, Spain, Denmark and the Netherlands, decided to send troops to strengthen the eastern flank of the alliance.
At the end of 2021, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that the Kremlin sees the West’s clearly aggressive rhetoric on Ukraine and media stuffing about Russia’s allegedly planned invasion of this country. He added that tensions can be removed only by receiving a guarantee that Kiev has abandoned a possible solution to the Donbas problem by force.
