This discovery reinforces China’s domain in the global atmosphere. Only in 2023, the country extracted 370 tons of gold.
A surprising geological finding in China I could change the mining panorama worldwide. A team of experts discovered what would be the largest site of gold known to datelocated in the province of Hunan. Baptized as the Wangu Gold Site, it is estimated that it contains around 1,000 tons of pure gold, with an approximate value of 83,000 million dollars.

The investigation was led by the Regional Geological Officewith the aim of identifying new resources in the depths of the subsoil. During the exploration multiple veins were analyzed, of which 40 presented a high concentration of the precious metal, with an average of 138 grams per ton of rock.

These formations are about 2,000 meters deep, which implied a complex technical deployment to evaluate its extraction potential.

This discovery reinforces China’s dominant role in the global atmosphere. In 2023, the country had already led world production with 370 tons of gold, surpassing traditional mining powers such as Australia, Russia and Canada. With the new finding, China further consolidates its strategic position in the international gold market.
Environmental risks due to intensive gold extraction
- Uncontrolled increase in mining activity: The possibility of finding more minerals could trigger excessive expansion and without adequate regulation of mining.
- Alteration of local ecosystems: Intensive extraction could negatively impact natural habitats, affecting both flora and fauna.
- Water pollution: Mining processes can release toxic substances that contaminate rivers, lakes and underground aquifers.
- Air quality deterioration: Emissions and dust generated by mining activities can affect the atmosphere and human health.
- Loss of forest coverage: Deforestation to make way to mining farms could put biodiversity at risk and accelerate climate change.
- Long -term environmental imbalance: The lack of sustainable policies could cause irreversible damage to the ecological balance of the region.
Where are the main gold reserves in the world
The main gold reserves in the world are distributed in several countries such as the United States at the head, Germany, China, Italy and France also have great reserves. Other countries with significant reservations include Switzerland, India and Japan.
