On Saturday, the ministries reported 31,128 new infections within 24 hours. In addition, 23 other fatalities were registered, which means that 14,360 people have died as a result of an infection since the pandemic began almost two years ago. The number of hospital patients also fell slightly on Saturday.
Across Austria, 2,032 infected people had to be treated in hospital – 42 fewer than on Friday. Within the past week, however, 149 new patients had to be admitted, which is an increase of eight percent. There were 185 seriously ill people in intensive care units on Saturday, three fewer than the day before, and there was a decrease of 13 patients in a week-to-week comparison.
The 31,128 new infections are the third highest value on Saturday – a week ago 32,258 new cases were registered, two weeks ago, on January 29, there were even 34,748. The seven-day average of daily new infections on Saturday was 31,587, the seven-day incidence was 2,475.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. On Saturday there were 337,544 confirmed active cases across Austria.
On average, 20.9 fatalities were registered every day in the past week, with a total of 146 deaths. 160.8 people per 100,000 inhabitants have died from or with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Since the beginning of the pandemic there have already been 2,248,713 confirmed cases in Austria. 1,896,809 people are considered to have recovered. The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Carinthia with 3,250.6, followed by Vorarlberg, Upper Austria and Styria (3,027, 2,885.7 and 2,579.4 respectively). It is followed by Salzburg (2,443.9), Tyrol (2,434.4), Lower Austria (2,177.3), Vienna (2,115) and Burgenland (1,951.3).
A total of 912,985 rapid PCR and antigen tests were registered in the past 24 hours. Of these, 661,796 were meaningful PCR tests, 4.7 percent were positive.
On Friday, only 17,634 vaccinations were carried out across Austria. According to the data from the e-vaccination card, a total of 6,780,335 people have already received at least one vaccination. Exactly 6,223,293 people and thus 69.7 percent of Austrians have a valid 2G certificate. The protection rate (valid certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 75.8 percent. In Lower Austria 71.6 percent of the population have valid protection, in Styria 70.6 percent. After Vienna (68.7), Tyrol (68.1 ), Carinthia (66.6), Salzburg (66.1) and Vorarlberg (65.6), Upper Austria brings up the rear with 65.4 percent.
