The Linz chief statistician and his soft spot for butterflies

It started around 40 years ago when the Standfest family moved into their house in Gallneukirchen. At night, many butterflies came to the living room window and have awakened the curiosity of father Johann, 75 years old. The secondary school teacher has caught some with a glass to determine them the next day. Soon became more of it. Standproof photographed the moths, has immersed them in macro photography and has recorded details of the stages of development of the eggs.

“It looked impressive on the screen,” recalls the 53-year-old son. Thomas Standfest, head of the city research in the profession of the highest statisticians at the magistrate Linz, shares the passion of the father and was particularly interested in breeding in youth.
