The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called a provocation reports of the “invasion of the Russian Federation” in Ukraine on February 16

The purpose of the West’s hysterical fit over the so-called Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 16 is to provoke and escalate the situation. This was announced on Saturday, February 12, by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

“[Относиться к этому следует] just like hysteria. What is the purpose of this hysteria – escalating the situation and, of course, provocative activity. This is part of the international reach of the provocation,” Zakharova said on the Soloviev Live YouTube channel, calling the hysteria seizures.

According to her, the provocation began a long time ago and lay on the fertile soil of the long-term Ukrainian conflict, which is “actively run by the United States.” Zakharova clarified that the information situation has been brought to the limit, but Kiev pretends that it is not involved in this. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry added that the story of the imminent “attack” on Ukraine is being coordinated from Washington, “many media outlets go for broke.”

“Media support, I would say, is unprecedented, because all Western resources have been exposed that position themselves as independent, which now exclusively serve this custom story from Washington,” the politician said.

A clear example of the Western media’s tendency to disseminate incorrect information is the publication of the Politico newspaper on February 11th. The authors of the material, citing sources, reported that US President Joe Biden told the allies: Russia could attack Ukraine on February 16. According to the publication, Washington spoke about possible missile strikes and cyber attacks from Russia before the “invasion”.

Earlier on the same day, February 12, talks were held between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the American leader. The conversation took place against the backdrop of US statements about a possible invasion of Ukraine as early as next week during the Beijing Olympics. Thus, the assistant to the head of state, Yuri Ushakov, noted that the conversation between Putin and Biden took place in an atmosphere of whipping up hysteria about the allegedly imminent “Russian attack on Ukraine.” According to him, the nature of the negotiations was businesslike.

On February 11, the Russian Foreign Ministry presented examples of publications in the Western media, which, as part of a large-scale disinformation campaign, contribute to the spread of the thesis about the so-called impending “Russian invasion of Ukraine.” The diplomats recalled that the Western media, in their reports on the crisis in Ukraine, ignored Moscow’s commitment to a diplomatic settlement of the conflict based on the Minsk agreements and its concerns about its own security due to the advancement of NATO military infrastructure to Russian borders.
