It was a very long night from Friday to Saturday for the team of SV Guntamatic Ried. With a sovereign 4-1 away win in Bregenz, the Rieder celebrated the much-celebrated return to the Bundesliga two years after relegation. The very big master party will take place next Sunday at the already sold -out home game against the Vienna. After the game that begins at 5 p.m., the master celebration takes place directly on the lawn of the Innviertel Arena. This is possible because a new lawn is laid anyway. The OÖN met a somewhat tired, but visibly happy managing director of SV Ried on Saturday evening. Wolfgang Fiala (37) delivered as a “sporty architect”. Two years ago, a “two-year plan” with the aim of ascent was issued at the beginning of the season. The Rieder have now reached this. From summer, the opponents are called Sturm Graz, Rapid, Lask, Salzburg or Blau-Weiß Linz again.

OÖN: How was the mood immediately after the final whistle in Bregenz?

Wolfgang Fiala: After we learned that Liefering also won against the Admira, there was perhaps even a certain overwhelming with the positive feelings. But with our fans, who again supported us so numerous and incredibly loudly, the mood was immediately solved and emotional. I think every player and supervisor deals with the emotions. Some are relieved, others are happy, and some realize what is made over time. What unites us all is that we went this way together and did it. That also makes you proud.

How was the long night bus trip back to Ried?

We celebrated a few more hours in the Bregenz stadium and consumed one or the other cold drink there. On the way home we tried to visit one or the other petrol station. It was not so easy in Germany because you stick to the law very strictly (in Germany the sale of alcohol is not allowed at most petrol stations between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., editor’s note), but we were also so well equipped. In any case, it was happy and funny, I can reveal that. We arrived in Ried at six in the morning.

Please review this promotion season briefly.

The start of the season was excellent (five victories in a row, editor’s note). In this phase, not everything was as good as you believed, but in the difficult phase it wasn’t as bad as you might have believed. After the defeats against St. Pölten and the Admira, certain processes that were moderated very well by the coaching team. The team also regulated this very well internally, we attached great importance to this in the squad planning two years ago. It was a mountain and valley ride. What distinguished us is that we have always come back strengthened from heavy phases. So I have to compliment the team a big compliment.

Ried is not always a simple pavement for those responsible, not least because of the expectations due to the success in the past. The criticism from outside was temporarily violent. Is the advancement for you as a sports person in a certain way also a satisfaction?

Yes, yes, I have to honestly say that. The criticism was partly right, but was sometimes irrelevant. I am proud that we did all of this with the same line -up and went through difficult phases together. That is a certain form of satisfaction. But the path is far from over, on the contrary: we are now where we wanted to go and belong. Here, in the Bundesliga, we now want to leave our footprint in the long term.

Admira-Wacker coach described Ried as a “deserved promoted”. How did you perceive this tight title race?

With Peter Stöger, Thomas Silberberger and Ralf Muhr, the Admira has a management team in the sporting field that has already achieved a lot in Austrian football. You have an experienced, very good team. We can be proud of that. We are proud that we have prevailed against this team. The Admira has played very well in the past year and a half. Even if we have prevailed now, I would like to make a big compliment to the ADMIRA for the performance in this exciting title race.
