The hunt for those men who are said to have blown into Gmunden and then attacked Maturants became a thriller. The Dutch tried almost 48 hours to escape the police in Upper Austria before switching themselves off on Sunday night: their escape ended with an accident in the Bavarian Marktl am Inn, a good 17 kilometers from Braunau. Three seriously injured suspects were arrested, and for the time being there was no trace of the fourth.
The investigators were on the trail of the 35- or 36-year-old men all weekend. The fact that, despite intensive searches, they were likely to be in Upper Austria until Saturday evening, testify to the “float of this group of perpetrators,” says Gottfried Mitterlehner, head of the State Criminal Police Office.
From milieu the “Mocro-Mafia”
The detainees are Dutch citizens with residence in Utrecht or Amsterdam. One is 35, two are 36 years old, all three have Moroccan roots. A connection with the “Mocro-Mafia”, on the account of which countless ATMs protrudes in Europe, is obvious. The criminal organization developed in the Netherlands ten to 15 years ago and consisted of young men with a migration background, often in Morocco. In Germany alone, the gang is to commit around 500 ATM a year.
“The men arrested are likely to come from this milieu,” says Mitterlehner and refers to the ongoing investigations. He is optimistic that the fourth accomplice will also be identified. Four hooded perpetrators could be seen on the surveillance pictures of the Salzkammergut shopping park (SEP).
Raid on Maturants
They wanted to blow up the ATM of a bank branch there at around 2.45 a.m. on Friday, but had failed. The detonation had been so violent that the car of the quartet, an Audi S8, was also badly damaged – so heavy that it was no longer traveling. In search of an alternative escape car, the criminals ran into the middle of a Matura egg, threatened the students and robbed the VW Tiguan of an 18-year-old. As reported, the boys had prepared a high school diploma with its schoolmates, so the group was in the parking lot of the Gmundner Gymnasium in the night.
