That has probably never happened before: In the 4-0 test win by Blau-Weiss Linz over Vienna, both teams with referee Safak Barmaksiz – who whistles regularly in the 2nd division – refused to continue playing in the second half.
The referee then officially called off the game. The second half was instead directed by the Vienna assistant coach.
Before that, the waves had risen after a double exclusion against Vienna player Luxbacher and blue and white player Fabio Strauss. After a foul, Strauss broke free from Luxbacher, who responded with a light touch in the area around his head. Bitter: It is very likely that Strauss will now be suspended for next week’s derby against Vorwarts Steyr.
Blue and white coach Gerald Scheiblehner also saw red, according to the referee’s game report. Doubly embarrassing, because Scheiblehner wasn’t at the game at all, but was in quarantine in Linz. In truth, it was Ernö Doma who was relegated to the stands by referee Barmaksiz.
Blue and white lodges a protest
Blue and white sports director Tino Wawra, who, like Gerald Scheiblehner, was also not in the stadium on Friday, confirmed to OÖN that they wanted to protest.
The referee’s report is expected tomorrow, after which Linzer will have to make a statement. The hearing at Senate 1 of the Bundesliga will take place on Tuesday.
