Instead of IHS: Lars Feld advises German Minister of Finance

The 55-year-old economist will be the minister’s personal representative, the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” reported. In this role, Feld will assist the Minister in assessing macroeconomic issues. The economist from Freiburg was a member of the Advisory Council for the Assessment of Overall Economic Development for ten years, most recently its chairman. He left the board at the end of February 2021. According to “FAZ”, Feld will not be an employee of the ministry, but will remain independent as a scientist and professor at the University of Freiburg.

When he rejected the IHS, Lars Feld had criticized the funding and dependence of the institute on its sponsors. The IHS basic funding lies with the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and the Ministry of Finance.
