French Ambassador to Ukraine Etienne de Ponsin on Sunday, February 13, called on compatriots currently in Ukraine to stock up on food, water and warm clothes due to the tense situation in the country. However, the ambassador did not give recommendations to leave the country.
“The past days have not led to the expected de-escalation, which our authorities are tirelessly working on. That is why we have decided to update our travel advice. We are now advising French travelers to postpone “all travel to Ukraine” (and not just “non-essential travel”),” the diplomat said in a statement.
De Ponsin also asked the French to be vigilant and advised to always have all documents ready.
“We also recommend that you, for practical purposes, prepare supplies of water, food and warm clothes, as well as make sure that the tank of your car is full, or even have a few extra supplies,” the ambassador added.
Nevertheless, the diplomat stressed that France is not yet calling on its citizens to leave Ukraine.
Earlier, on Saturday, it became known about the US plans to evacuate the staff of the embassy in Kiev. According to the State Department’s plan, all US embassy staff would be required to leave the country in anticipation of a “Russian invasion.”
On February 11, Great Britain began to take out embassy employees from Kiev. It is noted that since January 2022, “the build-up of Russian troops on the borders of Ukraine has increased the threat of military action.” In this regard, as the British Foreign Office added, a decision was made on the further removal of embassy employees from the Ukrainian capital.
Western politicians and media representatives continue to spread numerous speculations about possible Russian aggression against Ukraine. The Russian side has repeatedly refuted such statements, emphasizing that it has no plans to invade a neighboring country.
