Ambassador appreciated Turkey’s desire to mediate between Russia and Ukraine

Turkey’s desire to mediate between Moscow and Kiev is “sincere and commendable.” This was stated by Russian Ambassador to Ankara Alexei Yerkhov in an interview with Izvestia.

“Firstly, the tension around Ukraine, it seems, is seriously worrying Ankara, both due to geographic proximity and due to various regional military and political alignments. Therefore, here, not wanting an escalation, we sincerely would like to help, if possible, in a settlement, and such a desire, of course, is commendable. Secondly, Turkey, as you know, is pursuing a very active foreign policy, the framework and algorithms of which quite organically fit the desire to score “political points” on various kinds of “good offices”, “mediation” and so on. And in this, by the way, there is nothing wrong either – this is, as they say, the ABC of diplomacy, ”the diplomat specified.

Earlier, the official representative of the Turkish President, Ibrahim Kalin, said that Turkey is “the only country” that can meet the needs of both Ukraine and Russia to resolve the crisis.
