Turkish Airlines has provided passengers with the opportunity for additional operations to return or exchange tickets to Ukraine from February 13 to 28, according to the airline’s website.
“Due to the current situation in Ukraine, passengers who have tickets purchased before February 13, 2022 (inclusive) and for Turkish Airlines flights arriving in Ukraine (Kyiv, Odessa, Lviv, Kharkiv, Zaporozhye and Nikolaev) in the period from On February 13, 2022 through February 28, 2022 (inclusive), additional change and refund rights were granted, provided they complete transactions by February 28, 2022.
The airline also offers an extension of the purchased tickets until March 31, 2022 inclusive without any fees or penalties.
Earlier, on February 12, one of the sources of the publication “Strana.ua” reported that insurance companies notify aircraft owners of the need to withdraw them to the European zone. According to international law, the airline is obliged to insure civil liability, without which it is forbidden to lift aircraft into the sky. Therefore, the recall of insurers may paralyze air travel in Ukraine.
On February 13, a passenger plane of the SkyUP company, flying from Funchal to Kiev, made an emergency landing in Chisinau due to the leasing company’s ban on the entry into the airspace of Ukraine. Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine from the faction of Petro Poroshenko “European Solidarity” Oleksiy Goncharenko confirmed the likelihood of closing traffic in the airspace of Ukraine from February 14, 2022.
On the evening of February 13, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal announced that the Cabinet of Ministers would allocate 16.6 billion hryvnias to ensure uninterrupted air travel in the country’s airspace. According to the minister, this will help stabilize the situation on the passenger air transportation market and guarantee the return of citizens of the country from abroad to Ukraine.
