The quantities of data that need to be saved continues to grow: for this reason, Linz AG has built a new data center near Wiener Strasse, one is already in Urfahr. 14 million euros were invested in the location, and the company starts on June 2.
The building was presented to the public on Tuesday. “The data center is the digital heart of our city,” said Mayor Dietmar Prammer (SP) at the press conference. The future customers of the IT and Datacenter include numerous Linz companies. The data center of Linz AG is an alternative to data storage in the cloud that takes place on international servers, said Erich Haider, General Director of Linz AG.
Space for 9000 servers
Up to 9,000 servers have space in the building on around 600 square meters. In the full expansion, the data center has an electrical connection performance of 1.9 megawatts – this amount is consumed by around 500 households. The safety precautions are very high: it is well equipped against power failures, and the supply takes place from three substances. There are three diesel generators to maintain the system for 72 hours.
