This was stated by Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) on Monday during a visit to Switzerland. Nehammer did not want to set a specific date. Once again he emphasized that compulsory vaccination is a major intervention that must always be proportionate. The Commission of Experts will have to assess this, said the Federal Chancellor.
The introduction of the compulsory vaccination law was therefore decided with over 80 percent approval in the National Council, “because we created a law together that is as flexible as the virus itself”. According to Nehammer, the commission, which the Ministry of Health is currently preparing to appoint, will assess the development of the infection, but emphasized: “The commission consists not only of doctors, but also of lawyers – administrative law and constitutional law – why is that important ? Because proportionality is checked again and again,” said the Chancellor.

From a Swiss point of view, compulsory vaccination is not an issue. The question of an introduction is a matter for the cantons, emphasized Federal President Ignazio Cassis at the joint press conference with Nehammer in Zofingen, “at the moment there is no talk of it”. Rather, the epidemiological situation is such that it will probably be possible to decide on important easing in the near future, according to Cassis.

Switzerland is considering lifting all measures
Extensive easing of the corona measures are planned in Switzerland from this Thursday. On Wednesday it will be decided whether all restrictions will be lifted at all or whether some measures such as the obligation to wear masks will be retained. The currently existing 2G obligation indoors in the cultural and leisure sectors as well as in gastronomy should definitely be dropped and access should be possible again without any obligation to provide proof. It is currently being debated whether some measures, such as the obligation to wear masks indoors and on public transport, should be retained for the time being. The 2G rule could also continue to apply in night gastronomy, in indoor swimming pools and during intensive physical activities.
With a comparable number of inhabitants, Switzerland has fewer corona deaths than Austria, even though Switzerland was significantly more reluctant to take measures during the pandemic. Officially, almost 13,000 people in Switzerland have died in connection with the corona virus, in Austria there are more than 14,300.
The number of new infections is currently comparable to that in Austria, but there are significantly fewer tests in Switzerland than in this country. In Switzerland, antigen tests are free of charge, but the state only covers the costs for PCR tests for people with symptoms or for people who have come into contact with them.
