Relations between Russia and Poland are in an unsatisfactory state, the work of the main mechanisms of bilateral cooperation has been suspended. This was announced on February 14 by the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Russian-Polish relations are in an unsatisfactory state. At the initiative of Warsaw, the political dialogue has been frozen since 2014, and the work of the main mechanisms of bilateral cooperation has been curtailed. The last full-scale meeting of the foreign ministers of the two countries took place in 2013, after which there were only brief contacts on the sidelines of major international events, ”the statement said on the eve of the meeting of Foreign Ministers of the two countries Sergey Lavrov and Zbigniew Rau.
The ministry stressed that building constructive relations between the countries becomes impossible in the context of Poland’s forcing a hostile attitude towards Russia.
“The atmosphere of hostility towards Russia artificially fomented in Poland, including by the efforts of the official authorities and the media, constant talk about the “Russian threat”, the buildup of our own and NATO military potentials on our borders is not the kind of atmosphere in which it is possible to build constructive relationships” , – indicated in the publication on the website of the department.
As specified in the Russian Foreign Ministry, the meeting of ministers will be held on Tuesday, February 15. The talks will consider the current tasks of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), which is chaired by the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry. It is planned to discuss ways to increase the effectiveness of the OSCE, as well as an exchange of views on the state of the European security architecture.
In early February, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland announced plans to start supplying weapons to Ukraine. Also, the Polish authorities adopted a resolution on assistance to Ukraine, which provides for the supply of Piorun man-portable air defense systems and ammunition.
According to Olga Kovitidi, a senator from Crimea, a member of the Russian delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, Warsaw’s statement on the supply of weapons to Kiev provides grounds for discussing the issue of the inadmissibility of Poland’s chairmanship in the OSCE, as well as the possibility of the country’s membership in the organization.
At the same time, ex-Foreign Minister of Poland Radosław Sikorski criticized Germany for refusing to supply weapons to Ukraine. He demanded that Berlin take the security of the country seriously. Sikorsky stressed that in the aggravated situation in Ukraine, the British, Americans and countries directly bordering Russia supplied weapons to Kiev.
In recent weeks, Western politicians and members of the media have been spreading numerous speculations about a possible Russian “invasion” of Ukraine. The Russian side has repeatedly denied such statements. Moscow emphasized that it was not hatching plans for an “invasion” of Ukraine, and that all measures for the combat training of troops were carried out within Russian territory.
