The British Embassy in Russia noted an increase in demand for visas due to the easing of entry rules

Russian tourists wishing to visit the UK were told about the new entry rules after the easing of anti-COVID restrictions. This is stated in the Telegram channel of the embassy of the kingdom in Moscow.

“From February 11, the UK will remove the requirement for COVID-19 testing for fully vaccinated passengers (Pfizer BioNTech, Oxford AstraZeneca (including Covishield), Moderna, Janssen (J&J), Sinovac, Sinopharm Beijing and Covaxin) vaccines. To enter the country, it will be necessary to fill out only the Passenger Locator Form.

Unvaccinated passengers and those who have been vaccinated with drugs not recognized in the UK will need to fill out the same form, but also take a test before departure to the country and a PCR test on the second day after arrival.

The diplomatic mission also noted that today in the UK there is a decrease in the number of cases and deaths. 84% of residents over 12 years old completed the full course of vaccination, and more than 64% received revaccination.

Earlier, at the end of December 2021, the heads of the British airlines British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Ryanair and EasyJet wrote an open letter to the government, in which they criticized the measures of the authorities, reproaching the “disproportionate measures” taken in connection with the emergence of the Omicron strain. So, passengers arriving in the UK were required to undergo a PCR test for coronavirus before departure and after arrival, which increased costs and complicated travel. In addition, the authorities have introduced costly quarantine placements.

In early February 2022, American airlines presented similar claims to the authorities. The Airlines for America Alliance, which includes carriers such as United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Airlines, wrote to the White House’s coronavirus policy adviser. The alliance called on the Joe Biden administration to lift government requirements for COVID-19 testing before boarding a plane bound for the US. Such a requirement was put forward in connection with the “deterring effect” of booking international travel.

On December 12, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced the spread of the Omicron coronavirus strain in 63 countries around the world. According to preliminary data, it can surpass the Delta variant in terms of propagation speed. A month earlier, the WHO designated strain B.1.1.529, found in southern Africa, with the Greek letter Omicron. In a statement, the organization also reported that this variant of the coronavirus has a large number of mutations, some of which are of concern.
