Because the recovery of communication was classified as “unlikely”, the mission was stopped, as ISPACE boss Takeshi Hakamada said in front of journalists on Friday. “Resilience” should have put on Thursday evening in Mare Frigoris in the far north of the moon.
The control center had activated the engines during the landing test to brake “resilience”. “We were able to confirm that the position of the landing almost reached the vertical,” said Hakamada. But after the planned landing period, “we were unable to receive data that confirms a landing”.
It would have been the third time that a private company succeeds in landing on the moon. ISPACE would be the first of these companies that are not based in the United States. The landing device was brought into space in January with a Falcon 9 rocket from the US room trip company SpaceX from the Cape Canaveral space station, together with the moonlander “Blue Ghost” by the US company Firefly Aerospace. “Blue Ghost” landed in the area of the Mons Latreille at the beginning of March, a volcanic structure in the Mare Crisium, on the northeastern front.
