Apple WWDC: expected innovations and a surprise

Apple presented the new design Liquid Glass (German liquid glass) at the WWDC, which takes place in Cupertino this week. Apple also changes the naming for the operating systems of its products. For example, the jump from iOS 18 to iOS 26 will follow in the next autumn. This was to be expected -however, there was a surprise for iPad users. An overview of the innovations:

1. Liquid Glass, or: Back to the roots. We are shortly before the publication of iOS 7. The new operating system could become the most important update in iPhone history for Apple. A few months earlier, the group experienced a fiasco with the publication of the card app, and the outdated design of the iPhone apps and -Icons increasingly gets criticized. And indeed: with iOS 7 and a simplified design language, Apple succeeds in the hoped -for liberation. Even a number of controls that we take for granted on Apple devices today also go back to iOS 7. Twelve years later, in June 2025, Apple calls out a “completely new chapter”: Liquid Glass. And curiously, this means the introduction of a design language, some of which reminds of the original iPhone software, which was abolished with iOS 7. Apple returns to elements with depth effects. These are created primarily through semi-transparency, glass and 3D effects and run through all toolbars, app icons and controls. Liquid Glass should not only be reserved for the iPhone, but should also be found on the other Apple platforms.
