Not so long ago, some settlements in the municipality of St. Georgen am Walde were considered “blank spots” in terms of internet access. It was not possible to set up modern Internet connections either via the old telephone lines or via the mobile network. Now the community is all the more committed to work and as part of the Leader project “Broadband for the Mühlviertler Alm region” wants to provide the fiber optic network throughout the community over the next four years.
Volunteer broadband multipliers created the necessary tailwind in the form of numerous informational talks. They personally went from household to household to collect as many written expressions of interest as possible for a broadband connection.
This initiative started with an information event for the villages of Unter St. Georgen and Großerlau. The interest in this was overwhelming. Most of the households have already placed their order and thus secured the implementation of the project. As soon as the weather permits, the excavators will drive up in these two districts and begin the excavation work.
In addition, the connection between the main town of St. Georgen am Walde and the town of Linden up to the empty piping in the area of the industrial building area of Pflegkreuz is to be established this year. Subsequently, the fiber optic network will be rolled out to the towns of Ebenedt and Ottenschlag over the next four years.
The market town of St. Georgen am Walde is receiving technical support for this expansion from the Arbinger provider Elektro Pühringer GmbH. The market town signed a cooperation agreement with the internet provider back in summer 2015. Since then, whenever work has been done on road and canal construction, empty ducting for a future fiber optic supply has also been laid. A broadband center is also set up in the school centre. “The company Elektro Pühringer has proven to be a reliable partner and the requested broadband funding was approved by the federal government in autumn 2021,” says St. Georgen’s head of office, Gerald Steiner. On the basis of this relationship of trust, they now want to master the upcoming nationwide expansion.
