In a letter sent to the District Court of New York on Tuesday published today by the Variety site, Guiffre’s lawyer, David Boyeswrote:
“Dear Judge Kaplan:
We write together with counsel for the defendant to inform the Court that the parties have reached an agreement in principle of the aforementioned action. The parties anticipate filing a stipulation for dismissal of the case within thirty (30) days. In the meantime, the parties request that the Court suspend all deadlines and keep the action in abeyance. We appreciate the time and effort the Court has devoted to this matter.”
In a joint statement, the parties said: “Virginia Giuffre and Prince Andrew have reached an out-of-court settlement. The parties will file a stipulated dismissal once Ms. Giuffre receives the settlement (the amount of which is not disclosed). Prince Andrew intends to make a substantial donation to Ms Giuffre’s charity in support of victims’ rights. Prince Andrew never meant to smear Ms Giuffre’s character, accepting that she has suffered so much as an established victim of abuse as a result of unfair public attacks.”
“Jeffrey Epstein is known to have trafficked countless girls over many years,” the statement continued. “Prince Andrew deplores his association with Epstein and commends the courage of Ms. Giuffre and other survivors in standing up for themselves and others. He pledges to demonstrate his remorse for his association with Epstein by supporting the fight against the evils of sex trafficking and supporting its victims.”
In January, the queen took preemptive action by stripping her middle son of all his royal patronages and military titles. There were even rumors that he would be stripped of the dukedom, although this has not happened yet.
The allegations date back to Prince Andrew’s friendship with convicted sex offenders. Jeffrey Epstein Y Ghislaine Maxwell. Epstein, a financier with ties to show business and high places, killed himself while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges. Maxwell, his ex-girlfriend and daughter of the disgraced publishing mogul Robert Maxwellwas convicted on federal charges of enticing underage girls to engage in sexual acts with Epstein in December.
While Maxwell was convicted on criminal charges (her sentencing is reportedly due in late June), Prince Andrew faced the prospect of a civil trial, with Giuffre alleging assault and “intentionally inflicting emotional distress.”
That has now been avoided, thanks to the out-of-court settlement of the parties. However, his return to public life remains highly unlikely, as does any expectation that he might join his mother on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the extended public holiday in honor of Buckingham’s jubilee. her this summer.
