Ukraine asked NATO for military and construction equipment in case of emergency

The Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center (EADRCC) has received a request for international assistance from Ukraine. This was announced on Tuesday, February 15, by the press service of NATO.

It is noted that the State Emergency Service (SSChS) of Ukraine is preparing for large-scale emergencies of a different nature that may affect the civilian population.

“In accordance with the necessary procedures, the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center received on February 15 a request for international assistance from Ukraine,” the message says.

It is specified that Ukraine requested from NATO more than a hundred off-road vehicles, 760 inflatable boats with motors, dozens of heavy construction equipment, as well as demining and radiochemical reconnaissance equipment, tens of thousands of sets of special equipment for firefighters and chemical protection troops, and a total of 240 km of fire hoses of various diameters.

The EADRCC is NATO’s primary civil emergency response mechanism in the Euro-Atlantic region.

Earlier in the day, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO was cautiously optimistic about Moscow’s signals to continue diplomatic efforts on the situation around Ukraine.

At the same time, he noted, NATO does not yet see signs of a de-escalation of tensions around Ukraine, adding that it is premature to talk about these signs even after Russia announced the end of the exercises.

The Secretary General also said that on February 16-17, NATO defense ministers will discuss with their counterparts from Georgia and Ukraine the strengthening of defense, including the situation in the Black Sea region. According to Stoltenberg, NATO wants to see the withdrawal of not only the personnel of the Russian Armed Forces, but also heavy weapons from the borders of Ukraine.

In continuation of the diplomatic settlement of the situation, the alliance is ready to hold a series of meetings together with Russia. In addition, Washington is ready to discuss bilateral relations, security and arms control issues with Moscow.

Also on that day, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that military personnel began to return from the exercises. The units of the Southern and Western military districts have already started loading to go to their deployment points. As Lavrov stressed, the withdrawal of Russian troops to their places of deployment does not depend on the hysteria of the West, it was planned. At the same time, the minister once again reminded that Russia has the sovereign right to conduct military exercises on its territory at its own discretion.

Over the past few months, Western politicians and the media have been expressing concern over the alleged increase in Russia’s aggressive actions against Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied these accusations, emphasizing that it does not threaten anyone, and such statements are used as a pretext to place as much NATO military equipment as possible on Russian borders.
