80 years of oönachrichten, 80 years of freedom of the word

June 11, 1945: The first edition of the OÖN – from the first edition on June 11th to October 6th, was centered under the title “Upper Austrian News”.
October 8, 1945: First edition as an independent newspaper – on the first day of publication after announcing the freedom of the press was entitled to the addition: “Independent Tagblatt of Austrian Democrats”.

The history of Upper Austria after the Second World War cannot be told without the history of Upper Austrian news. They are too narrowly interwoven. Because it was just a month from the exemption from the US Army and the end of the Second World War in Europe on May 8th until the first appearance of the Upper Austrian news on June 11, 1945.

It is a story about the end of the dictatorship of National Socialism, the freedom of the press and the reconstruction of the country.
