Secretary General Sachslehner: No new elections

She is “very confident” that the turquoise-green coalition will last until the end of the 2024 legislative period, she said in an interview with the APA. The cooperation between the ÖVP and the Greens works very well, the government program is being worked through.

Sachslehner cannot understand speculation that the ÖVP could have an interest in early elections, since this would also end the committee of inquiry. The ÖVP will participate “100 percent” in the clarification, her party “stands for full clarification and transparency,” assured the Secretary General.

No danger for coalition

Sachslehner rejected the opposition’s accusation that the ÖVP would “litter” the committee with vast amounts of files. At the last committee so far, the accusation was that too little had been delivered, now that too much was delivered. “None of this is the case”, what is necessary will be delivered. In any case, Sachslehner does not see the turquoise-green coalition climate as endangered by the U-committee.

In the debate about the chats that have become public, in which, among other things, Lower Austria’s governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner spoke of “red Gsindl”, the VP Secretary-General, like party leader and Chancellor Karl Nehammer before her, finds “the feigned indignation somewhat dispensable”. The ÖVP was also confronted with insults and “a long list of gaffes”. Sachslehner therefore advocated a “disarmament of words”.
