The Supreme Court of Chile revoked the parole of Facundo Jones Huala

What’s more, The activist had started the procedures to return to Argentina, but with the new ruling, he will have to return to the Chilean prison where he was.

By four votes in favor and one against, the Supreme Court “revoked the sentence issued by the Temuco Court of Appeals and rejected the granting of the benefit of parole to Francisco Facundo Jones Huala” who must return to jail, indicated the ruling released by the Judiciary.

The Mapuche leader had received conditional release from the Court of Appeals of Temuco (south) on January 21 after a request from his defense for his reintegration “into his sociocultural environment.”

The Supreme Court argued that his status as indigenous was not sufficient and that “progress in their process of social reintegration” was not made.

The magistrates rejected the amparo appeal filed by the defenders of the Argentine activist who was active on both sides of the Andes Mountains, considering that the Temuco Court of Appeals’ Parole Commission adequately weighed the background to deny the benefit, so “there is no illegal act of said instance”.

“He is not part of a psychosocial intervention program and refuses to do so because he considers that no program adjusts to his cultural needs”was the argument used by the Parole Commission of the Temuco Court of Appeals.

This Monday, Jones Huala had fired the lawyers who represented them before the highest Chilean court.
