The world must remain vigilant in the coming hours in the context of the situation in Ukraine. This was stated by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during telephone conversations on February 15.
“The couple discussed the dire situation at the Ukrainian border and agreed that the world must remain vigilant in the coming hours and days,” the office at 10 Downing Street said in a statement.
It is noted that Johnson thanked the head of the EC for close cooperation on the issue of sanctions and stated the need to continue work on the preparation of a package of economic measures against Russia.
Earlier in the day, Johnson said that the British authorities welcome Russia’s readiness for dialogue on the situation around Ukraine, but the intelligence data still raises concerns in London.
Earlier in the day, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said tensions in Europe were provoked not so much by Russian troops on Russian soil as by U.S. claims that a war was about to break out. Also, the current situation was affected by the huge accumulation of Ukrainian troops near the line of demarcation.
On February 15, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that servicemen began to return from the exercises. The units of the Southern and Western military districts have already started loading to go to their deployment points. As Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov emphasized, the withdrawal of Russian troops to their places of deployment does not depend on the hysteria of the West, it was planned. At the same time, the minister once again reminded that Russia has the sovereign right to conduct military exercises on its territory at its own discretion.
Lavrov also pointed out that statements about the alleged “invasion” of Russian troops in Ukraine are speculation and “information terrorism.”
