The Innviertel beer region was founded in 2012 with the aim of strengthening the smaller breweries and thus the variety of beers in the Innviertel. After ten years, those responsible around project manager Andrea Eckerstorfer and chairman Johann Froschauer gave a positive interim summary yesterday in Engelszell Abbey. “We have had three closures within the beer region in the past ten years, but there have been five new openings during this time. We have not only maintained the beer variety, we have strengthened and expanded it. That is a great pleasure for all of us,” emphasized Eckerstorfer and added: “I believe we have succeeded in raising public awareness of the regional breweries, also as employers.” In addition, the people of the Innviertel are now much more open to new types of beer.
Quality “that simply fits”
Around 100 different beers are currently brewed by the ten members of the beer region. However, the priority is the quality of the beer. “And it just fits,” Eckerstorfer is convinced.
After the already traditional Innviertel beer march suffered massively from the corona pandemic in the past two years and the majority of the events could not take place, those responsible are confident for this spring. More than 100 different events are planned. “The Beer March is an old tradition, it’s an important month for the brewers,” says Johann Froschauer, chairman of the Innviertel beer region.

However, some of the events will start as early as February and will continue into early summer. In the months of April, May and June, the brewers of the ten breweries lace up their walking shoes to show visitors beautiful places, of course with catering. The exact dates and routes will be announced promptly.
From March 5th to April 3rd (every Friday to Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.) 50 artists from the Innviertel show their works on the subject of “hops and bangs” in the Kunsthaus Obernberg. The tenth anniversary of the beer region is to be celebrated in Ried this summer. An open-air fair is planned.
