The death toll from the sinking of the Spanish fishing vessel Villa de Pitanxo off the coast of Canada has risen to ten people. This was announced on Tuesday, February 15, by the Spanish maritime rescue service.
It is noted that the bodies of two of the dead were discovered by the Canadian ship Nexus, another – by the Portuguese fishing vessel Franca Morte.
“Three survivors and ten dead have been identified so far,” the report said.
Earlier in the day, four people were reported dead in a fishing boat shipwreck.
The crash occurred in the area of Terranova Island, 250 miles (402.3 km) from the coast. At the same time, there were about 24 crew members on board: 18 citizens of Spain, as well as citizens of Peru and Ghana.
The representative of the Spanish government in Pontevedra, Maika Larriba, said on the same day that two lifeboats were found at the crash site, one of them was empty, the other had three sailors.
The rescue and search operation continues.
