In order to find out the profile of female investors in Spain, N26 interviewed 3,005 participants from Spain, both men and women, investors and not. The data from this survey reveals that, in Spain, cryptocurrencies are the most popular asset among women, and that three out of four plan to double their monthly investments in 2022. Lack of money is their main obstacle when it comes to investing, followed by lack of sufficient knowledge.

Spanish women earn less than men: three out of four earn between 0 and 1,999 euros, almost half as much as them. In addition, they invest an average of 15% less.
The results of the analysis invite reflection on the existing gender gap in finance and show that investment is still an activity dominated by the male sex (only 16% of Spaniards do not perceive it this way).

The profile of female investors in Spain
The investors in the age range 55 to 64 year olds are the ones who are willing to allocate a greater amount of money to new investment opportunities.
Those that they work in the financial and technological sectors they are the ones that reserve the most money for this purpose. At the other end of the table are women employed in retail and tourism.
Refering to training In terms of investment and finance, the most informed are those who work in the financial sector (51% consider themselves informed), law (45%), electronic commerce (45%) and social work (41%).
Regarding the family situationwomen with children invest an average of 100 euros more per month than those without.
When determining the investment strategy, more than a third prioritize profitability, as well as value for money (33%) and risk minimization (32%), while sustainability is a factor that barely 15% of female investors consider. In strategic terms, there are substantial differences between the sexes: almost twice as many men (29%) as women (15%) consider it important to diversify the investment portfolio.
Earn money in the long term, the main motivation
Among the main motivations for Spanish female investors to invest, earning money in the long term stands out, which coincides with the main male motivation. In second and third position they highlight financial security for the family and saving for retirement.

Lack of income and ignorance, the main brakes
Both women who already invest and those who do not, state that lack of money is the main obstacle for not investing more or not having started yet. The lack of knowledge is the second most chosen reason by Spanish women.
On the other hand, when asked about the reasons that would encourage them to invest, more than a quarter (27%) say that they would like women to speak more openly about investments, and one in four would like to see more women investors. In fact, nearly half (46%) say they don’t talk about investing at all. According to them, education and relevant courses (23%) would also be useful for increasing female investment.

Cryptocurrencies, the preferred asset of Spanish women
In Spain, almost two out of five (39%) female investors consider cryptocurrencies as their favorite investment product. Among those who have not yet invested, more than a quarter say they will start with the crypto assetsfollowed by real estate and banking products.
The study also concludes that women who plan to start investing value allocating up to 324 euros per month.
