“We must declare the legal tender of foreign currencies, mainly the dollar and thus end exchange control“, emphasized the former official. And he also estimated that “the time will come when zeros will have to be taken out of the currency, without a doubt, because transactions today are not easy.”
Speaking to Radio Rivadavia, Liendo highlighted: “You have to decide to change the monetary regime because you cannot continue with patchwork. We have been like this for 20 years.”
In that sense, he assured that it is essential “to clean up the Central Bank, so that its assets are liquid and it can maintain the stability of pesos.”
In his opinion, “clarity” is needed to carry out a measure of these characteristics, but he clarified: “It is not just political power to achieve it, because with that alone the country cannot be stabilized. It is what happens with Kirchnerism.”
Liendo also pointed out that for 20 years, the Central Bank “was emptied in two ways: the use of the monetary issue to finance the deficit and the use of reserves to pay the Government bills, as happened with the payment to the IMF that it made former President Nestor Kirchner.
“So, on the one hand they take pesos and on the other dollars. That is why it is broken and cannot sustain the value of the currency, which gives rise to inflation”he concluded.
