These changes will happen in stages. between September 6 and 20. One of the most important novelties has to do with the change from a Proof of Work (PoW) protocol to Proof of Stake.
How do I protect my ETH during the Merge?
Ethereum Foundation issued a document clarifying that Ethereum holders do not need to do anything to prepare for The Merge or after it happens.
The only thing they noted is that users must have a self-custody wallet such as Metamask, Trust Wallet, Defiant and Nifty.
Those running nodes (validators or non-validators) of Ethereum will have to make certain necessary updates that are described on the Ethereum Foundation site.
Can funds be moved during the Merge?
It is important not to move the funds during the duration of The Merge. This process could take about 10 minutes.
However, considering that an Ethereum transaction can take a long time if the network crashes, it is recommended not to move the funds several hours before the merge.
What about the other cryptocurrencies?
Stablecoins have the same precautions as with ETH and it is recommended to keep them in a self-custody wallet and not make shipments during the Merge. You can then continue to use them normally.
