The Government advances in the regulation of mining, key to attract dollars

“The implementation of the Federal Registry of Mining Suppliers allows to expedite the hiring process of the same, promote the increase of human capital and encourage work, enabling the continuous development of the sector and productive diversification”, maintains the norm.

On the other hand also Through the aforementioned resolution, the Federal Board of Mining Suppliers was created within the orbit of the Undersecretary, in which those registered in the Federal Register of Mining Suppliers, representatives of the organization and national and provincial chambers related to mining activity will participate. The purpose of this instance will be to establish a space for dialogue and exchange between different actors in the mining activity.

Mining: a source of dollars

It is worth mentioning that Mining is, after agriculture, the only productive sector with a positive balance in the last 20 years. “In other words, every year more dollars come in from Expo than they spend on imports,” a specialized source clarifies to Ámbito.

The numbers are compelling: this year they expect to reach US$3.2 billion in exports and everyone agrees that it can triple or quadruple by 2030. In fact, “it is enough to compare with exports with Chile, which are around US$60,000 million a year,” explains the source.

That is why the Government understands “that mining activity has a clear federal impact in terms of local employment and development of local suppliers located in the different provinces.” In fact, the Government has been negotiating with Chinese companies and with funds from the United States to reactivate investments in the mining sector.

And it is that the possibilities of development of this sector open up a very important horizon in terms of investment, something that Argentina desperately needs. In fact, by way of example, it can be pointed out that “only one copper project implies disbursements of between US$3,000 and US$4,000 million”.

Aware of this, a few months ago, Massa announced the launch of a special regime for mining companies, within the framework of the policy carried out by the Ministry of Economy to deal with the problems generated by the exchange rate gap. The minister aims to unlock important investments in this sector which, as indicated by the numbers and projections, can become an important engine for generating foreign currency.
