According to the report, IBGE forecasts that the soybean harvest will increase by 23.4% in 2023, up to 147.5 million tons, and that of corn by 5.3%, up to 122.5 million tons, but that rice will will reduce by 3.6%, up to 10.3 million tons.
The cultivation of rice, corn and soybeans currently represent 92.9% of the grain harvest and 87.5% of the cultivated area.
This projection, if confirmed, will allow the country to complete two consecutive years with record harvests (2022 and 2023) and overcome the losses it suffered in 2021 due to adverse weather conditions, which caused the harvest to drop to 253.2 million (-0.35 %).
The country collected a record harvest of 263.2 million tons of grains in 2022, 3.9% higher than that of 2021.
What happens in Argentina
This Wednesday, the The Rosario Stock Exchange (BCR) on Wednesday cut its crop estimates for Argentina’s 2022/23 soybean and corn crops to 34.5 million and 42.5 million tons, respectively, due to the impact of a historic drought.
Last month, the BCR estimated soybean production at 37 million tons and corn production at 45 million tons. Argentina is the world’s leading exporter of soybean oil and meal, and the third largest in corn.
