They also play a crucial role in imports of energy, minerals and food in Japanas well as in the export of finished products.

Berkshire Hathaway has no other investments in Japanese territory, but Buffett has not hidden his interest in the Japanese market for a long time. With these recent operations, the value of the five Japanese companies registered an average increase of 180%.

During Berkshire’s annual meeting in May, the renowned investor justified his decision by pointing out that the five Japanese firms were “noticeably” undervalued, solidly established and focused on the long termlarge enough to generate favorable returns.

“I just thought they were great companies. They were companies that I understood and trusted, something similar to Berkshirebecause they have diverse interests,” Buffett said.
