During Berkshire’s annual meeting in May, the renowned investor justified his decision by pointing out that the five Japanese firms were “noticeably” undervalued, solidly established and focused on the long termlarge enough to generate favorable returns.

“I just thought they were great companies. They were companies that I understood and trusted, something similar to Berkshirebecause they have diverse interests,” Buffett said.
