Crimes with cryptocurrencies have fallen 60% so far this year

Cryptocurrency crimes have fallen 60% so far this yearsays Chainalysis. The analysis firm maintains that the volume of cryptocurrency transactions for illicit purposes is declining.

The volume of transactions with cryptocurrencies for illegal purposes fell more than 60% in crimes compared to 2022just in a period where the main crypto assets are recovering from the bear market.

The same report maintains that shipments to “risk entities”including high-risk exchanges and transaction mixers, they dropped 42%.

Chainalysis assured that cryptocurrency transaction volumes “decreased across the board”, those drops being “much less severe” in shipments to “legitimate services”. In the latter, virtual asset inflows were down just 28%.

“In other words, there was a market pullback, but the volume of illicit cryptocurrency transactions is falling much more than the legitimate volume,” Chainalysis reiterated.

On the other hand, Chainalysis mentioned ransomware (data hijacking). According to this company, this is the only type of crime with cryptocurrencies which aims to have growth this 2023.

In its analysis, the company notes that, as of June, the attackers have managed to extort $449.1 million. Those are $175.8 million more than in the same period of 2022. In percentage terms, it is a growth of 65%, approximately.
