The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which he co-chairs, announced plans to spend $8.6 billion on healthcare technology and programs in 2024the largest budget ever allocated to the nonprofit.
These funds will go towards efforts to develop new vaccines and cheap supplies to stop malaria, polio and maternal deaths.
Gates called on countries to donate 0.7% of their gross domestic product to help. Health spending “not only has humanitarian benefits,” but translates into economic and environmental gains, Gates said.
