The foundation of Bill and Melinda Gates has taken advantage of the stock market rally Microsoft to sell 1 million shares during the fourth quarter of 2023, valued at current market prices at $411 million.

This is not the only sale that the Gates foundation has made in the fourth quarter. He also sold 2.6 million Berkshire Hathaway shares., Warren Buffett’s investment holding company. This company remains his second largest holding, although the weighting in his portfolio has dropped to 11.8%.

The foundation continues to maintain among its main positions: Canadian National Railway, with a portfolio weight of 16.3%, followed by Waste Management, with a weighting close to 15%; and Caterpillar (5.1%).

The entity has also sold 360,000 shares of Deere, its sixth largest position, whose weighting is 3.3%.

And continuing with its sales operations, has divested itself of its stakes in Apple, after selling just over 52,000 shares; and has also sold 100% of its shares in other well-known companies such as Alphabet, Nvidia, Amazon, Adobe, Chevron, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, although as in the case of Apple, the securities sold They do not represent a significant amount.

The only company that the foundation bought during the fourth quarter was Veralto, a newly created company after spinning off from Danaher, and which specializes in new technological solutions. The entity purchased just over 122,000 shares.
