Why did Elon Musk sue OpenAI?

In the lawsuit, Musk claims thatand financed the company jointly with Altman and its president, Greg Brockmanwith the intention of maintaining it as a non-profit and that the technology it developed would be used to serve humanity.

However, according to Musk, the company changed and would not fulfill its promise to keep its code public, but rather the recent alliance with Microsoft would “pervert” the original mission. The technology giant had supported OpenAI on several occasions, but its intervention in the company was more important when it helped Altman return to OpenAI after it fired him and Microsoft hired him briefly.

Therefore, the tycoon is suing OpenAI for breach of contract and unfair practices seeking an injunction that prevents Microsoft from benefiting from OpenAI technology.

“OpenAI, Inc. has transformed itself into a de facto closed-source subsidiary of the world’s largest technology company: Microsoft,” the lawsuit reads (via Associated Press). “Under your new board [directiva]is not only developing but is actually refining an AGI [inteligencia artificial general] to maximize Microsoft’s profits, rather than in benefit of humanity.”
