The Chamber of Bakers Entrepreneurs of Mendoza (CEPA) made public on Monday the announcement of a strong increase in the price of bread and other products of the sectorthus marking the first increase so far this year. This adjustment responds to the need to face the growing costs associated with inflation.

Following the same line, the situation is replicated in Tucumanwhere bakery entrepreneurs anticipate the national economic reality and prepare to implement a new increase in one of the products most consumed by the inhabitants of the province. This increase, which will range between 10% and 15%, according to the results of a recently announced cost study, will raise the price of bread to close to $2,000 or even more in some cases.

The seasonal drop in consumption during the summer had allowed previous increases to be absorbed without passing them on to the consumer, but now, with an increase of 13%, bakeries are forced to adjust their prices. The last rate update had been made on December 15 of the previous year.

The new suggested prices for bakeries

  • Bread: $1,700 (previously $1,500)
  • Cakes: $2,960 (previously $2,620)
  • Common bills: $4,300 (previously $3,790)

In the midst of the country’s complex economic situations, the prices of basic products become an issue that directly affects the pocket of society. Inflation impacts all productive activities, reflected in increases that fall on the consumer. The price of bread does not escape this reality and its cost experiences constant variations.

The president of CEPA expressed his concern, pointing out that inflation directly affects bakeries, causing a 20% increase in the price of inputs last month. In addition, he highlighted that increases are usually accompanied by decreases in sales, aggravating the economic situation of the sector. The inflationary situation, added to the increase in raw materials, services, fuels and salary agreements, create a challenging scenario for bakeries, which seek to balance their costs without significantly affecting their customers.
