Oasis comeback ticket sales: UK government to review ‘dynamic pricing’ system

The British Labour government announced that it will investigate the “dynamic pricing” systemwhich caused great anger among the group’s followers Oasis and disproportionately raised the cost of tickets for his 2025 tour.

British Culture Minister, Lisa Nandypromised in a statement released on Sunday evening that the government would examine this practice of “dynamic pricing”, which is already used mainly in the purchase of airline tickets, and which is also developing in the music sector.

What is the “dynamic pricing” system?

This system consists of adjusting the selling price of a ticket in real time, taking into account consumer demand, so that if there is a strong demand for a certain product, its price increases.

British band Oasis announced their return to the stage last week, after the brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher settle their differences, with a series of concerts in 2025 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, which generated great enthusiasm.

Oasis had broken up fifteen years ago, following a fight between the Gallagher brothers before a concert in Paris in 2009.

On Saturday, after waiting for hours on the ticketing platforms, in particular on the website Ticketmaster UKmany fans were disappointed to find that they were being offered tickets at prices much higher than those advertised before they went on sale.

Some tickets that initially cost around 150 pounds ($197) were eventually offered for more than 350 pounds ($460).

The Culture Minister said it was “depressing to see prices being inflated, depriving ordinary fans of any chance to enjoy their favourite band on stage.”

Nandy added that she wants to work to establish a “fairer” system.

Ticketmaster UK defended itself on Saturday, claiming that the tour’s “organizer” – the promoters and the artists – had chosen to set the price of tickets. “based on their market value”.

Before Oasis, another controversy had already accompanied the sale of tickets by Ticketmaster, during the 2023 tour of the North American singer Bruce Springsteen across the United States, with tickets selling for several thousand dollars.
