Uruguay refines its strategy to present itself as an innovation hub in the Asian market

Uruguay will participate in the universal fair Osaka 2025 in Japan and will be promoted as a hub of innovation and technology, as part of the strategy to position the country brand in the Asian market.

The Chancellor Omar Paganini He considered that the event represents “an important opportunity” for the country to “project its image abroad in a priority region such as Asia-Pacific and together with a strategic partner such as Japan.”

Paganini said that “a universal exhibition transcends the merely economic objectives of the commercial ones” and highlighted: “It is an international event, a space to exhibit the most outstanding in terms of innovation, so it is intended that the public and private sectors of the country.”

In turn, he pointed out the importance of this event from a strategic point of view, to position and project the country brand, “projecting the strengths it offers as a reliable partner to build global public goods in terms of sustainable development”.

Uruguay will be one of the 150 countries that will participate in the event that will take place from April 13 to October 13 of next year, with the attendance of some 28 million people, as confirmed by the chancellor in the Executive Tower together with the Japanese ambassador in the country, Hideki Asari; the executive director of Uruguay XXI, Sebastian Risso; and the Minister of Tourism, Eduardo Sanguinetti.

The strategic relationship between Uruguay and Japan

Participation is part of the celebration of the centenary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between both countries in 2021. “Uruguay and Japan They are united by strong political, cultural, economic and cooperation ties in the most diverse areas,” said Paganini.

In the matter of investments, The minister cited the business cases of “Japanese companies in strategic Uruguayan sectors, such as forestry, renewable energy and green hydrogen.”

At the same time, he recalled that in 2018 the then Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe, visited the country, while in 2021 the Minister of Foreign Affairs did so, Toshimitsu Motegi, which “further consolidated the bond and fostered constant dialogue between the two nations.”
