Eminem to open MTV Video Music Awards

The musician is nominated for “Video of the Year,” “Best Hip-Hop,” and “Song of the Summer,” among others.

Eminem will return to the stage of the VMAs to open the show on Wednesday night, announced MTV today.

The artist, who is tied with Peter Gabriel for the most wins by a solo male artist in VMA history, he will return to the show’s stage for the first time since 2022, when he performed with Snoop Doggand last opened the show in 2010 with a duet on her hit “Love the Way You Lie” with Rihanna.

His nominations this year include “Video of the Year,” “Best Hip-Hop,” “Song of the Summer” and “Most Iconic VMA Performance” for his legendary 2000 medley of “Real Slim Shady” and “The Way I Am,” which included a procession of more than 100 impersonators dressed as him.

He joins a formation that includes Anitta, Karol G, LL Cool J, Shawn Mendes, Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, GloRilla, Camila Cabello, Rauw Alejandro, Benson Boone, Halsey, Lenny Kravitz and Lisa from Blackpink.

The show will take place live on Wednesday, September 11 at 9pm from the UBS Arena in New York and can be seen live on MTV.

The VMAs had been scheduled for September 10; now that has been confirmed as the date for the first debate of the election cycle between Kamala Harris and Donald TrumpMTV has pushed back its iconic awards show by one night, to September 11.

Taylor Swift leads the VMA nominations with 10, followed by Post Malone with nine (most of them for her duet with Swift, “Fortnight”). Carpenter is tied with Ariana Grande and Eminem with six nominations each. They are followed by multiple nominations Megan Thee Stallion and SZA (five each), and Lisa, Olivia Rodrigo and Teddy Swims (four each).
