“The Little Mermaid”, based on the book by Hans Christian Andersen which is 200 years old and has the backing of the Disney label. “Let’s not forget that from a pedagogical point of view we are talking about a book that in these times is a return to the sources,” he said. Rottemberg, one of the producers.

From the same producers of “School of rock” and “Matilda”, musicals that made a strong impact in the post-pandemic winter holidays, arrives “The Little Mermaid”, Disney family show based on the film, which is looking for its leading man as of today.

The Rottembergs (Carlos, Thomas, Nicholas and Matilda) Ozone Productions (Fernando Moya and Pablo Kohluber) and MP Productions (Mariano Pagani and Magalí Altman) will be the producers of the musical that for the first time will have its original version in Argentina. Unlike the performances of “School of rock”, which began around July, those of “The Little Mermaid” will begin on May 30 and will extend until the end of the holidays, hoping for better revenue in relation to the more compact season that “School of rock”.

Carlos Rottemberg He told Ambito: “It is a multi-target show that speaks to boys, and we like it a lot because we know that girls are there, but this one has a story for boys. The fact that the performances will take place at 8 pm means that it is once again for the general public, not just for children. Matilda had also premiered in May, something that we did not do this year with School of Rock due to commitments at the Gran Rex, a delay in the production and aimed at a different audience than Matilda and The Little Mermaid. We are returning to the two-month season and it is worth it because it is the first time that the rights to the original have been given to Argentina. It is a book of Hans Christian Andersen which is 200 years old and never had a television before, although it does have the Disney brand. Let us not forget that from a pedagogical point of view we are talking about a book that in these times is a return to the sources.”

To find the leading role of Ariel, the mermaid who dreams of leaving the sea and living on land, they are looking for artists over 16 years old, with training in singing, dancing and acting, who look between 16 and 18 years old. They will be chosen through open auditions at the Gran Rex Theatre.

The play originally produced by Disney Theatrical Group is based on the Disney animated classic and the tale of Hans Christian Andersen. The music is provided by Alan Menkenthe lyrics of Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and the book is from Doug Wright.

The creative team will be the same as “School of rock”: the director Ariel Del Mastro in the general direction, Marcelo Caballero in acting direction, Analia Gonzalez in choreographic direction, Jorge Ferrari in the stage design and Sebastian Mazzoni in vocal direction. Tickets will go on sale shortly.

Rottemberg He made a diagnosis of the current theatre season, which suffered a dramatic drop in ticket sales in September: “In five decades of work, we have had the full range of ups and downs in consumption. We never stop investing in the performing arts. There are 250 thousand people who paid for tickets to previous musicals, which is a guarantee to invest in this, with the best quality and with the same phrase from Matilda: we are only going to produce shows in this format to which we would take our children.”
