The future privatization of Argentine Airlines, The 2025 national budget project, Clean Record and Single Ballot were the main topics discussed at the meeting called by the Chief of Staff, Guillermo Francos. Also attending were the Minister of Deregulation and State Transformation, Federico Sturzeneggerthe Deputy Chief of the Executive Cabinet, José Rolandi; the Secretary of State Transformation and Public Service, Maximiliano Fariña; and the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Martín Menem and Santiago Caputo.
This Wednesday at 11 a.m., both the Transportation Committee and the Budget and Finance Committee of the Chamber of Deputies will meet to discuss the steps to be taken with the privatization of Aerolíneas.
The Government decided to move forward with the initiative in the midst of a long conflict with the aeronautical unions, which continue to press ahead with strikes demanding salary increases and rejecting layoffs in the sector. Last week, the Secretary General of ATE/ANAC, Marcelo Belellihe said: “Unlike what some media say, we do not come with a scenario of conflict for political or partisan reasons, The conflict has arisen because there have been layoffs and situations that have, in some way, raised red flags in our organization.”
In turn, the Ministry of Security denounced Pablo Biró, head of the pilots’ union, for extortion and threats. According to the ministry headed by Patricia Bullrich, in his latest statements, the union leader “warned about their intention to harm air transport, saying that “this is going to get much worse.”
In this context, sectors close to the government decided to move forward with the initiative that would authorize the privatization of the flag carrier. “We are Returning to the original draft of the Bases Law which authorizes the executive and legislative branches to sell the Aerolíneas shares with the aim of having more investments in the Argentine skies“, he summarized Hernan Lombardi. He added that “there is a lot of consensus, the Civic Coalition also expressed its support, as did a good part of the radicalism and I would not be surprised if other blocks joined in. I am very optimistic about the resolution in the Chamber of Deputies,” Lombardi said.

Meanwhile, the MID deputy, Oscar Zago, He stated that “there are different projects, among which recently one from the Civic Coalition, there is one from Deputy Lombardi.”
It should be noted that, in the official corridors, they consider that a vast sector of society today looks favorably on the privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas. “The strikes, the extraordinary benefits, are factors that helped even sectors of politics, which were previously against privatizing it, to be willing to discuss it today,” they say. They estimate that the treatment of the budget project will require “at least a month” the legislators agreed.
Beyond these projects, the Government wants to submit to Parliament another package of legislative initiatives such as: Ley Hojarasca, Divorcio Bincular, Sucesiones and educational reform. This explains why the strategy is to maintain a more fluid dialogue with legislators.
On behalf of the national deputies, Gabriel Bornoroni, Nicolás Mayoraz, Santiago Santurio, Carlos Zapata and Nadia Marzquez attended for Freedom Advances; on behalf of PRO, Diego Santilli, Sergio Capozzi, Hernán Lombardi, Silvina Lospennato, Silvina Giudici and Patricia Vázquez; and on behalf of the MID, Oscar Zago and Eduardo Falcone.

As for Lombardi’s project, it establishes declaring “subject to privatization, under the terms and with the effects provided for in Law No. 23,696 on State Reform, the company Aerolíneas Argentinas SA.”
In turn, it would authorize “establishing the legal framework and carrying out the procedure to implement the privatization process referred to in Article 1.”
While the Civic Coalition initiative calls for respect for the provisions included in the Bases Law for proceeding with privatization, which contemplates the participation of the Bicameral Commission on Privatizations of Congress, the General Comptroller’s Office of the Nation and the General Audit Office of the Nation (AGN).
In line with this, the law establishes that the commission must be informed of any preference granted to a potential buyer by the national Executive Branch within the framework of the provisions of article 17 of law 23.696in addition to the measures adopted, with the aim of guaranteeing the principles of “transparency, competition, maximum participation, equality, publicity and open government in decision-making processes.”
Finally, he assures that the AGN must carry out an examination regarding the privatization process of each of the companies, Evaluating compliance with the legal and financial aspects, once it has been completed and within a period of 120 business days.
